Physarum polycephalum reacts sensitively to light, temperature und chemical substances. To acquire reproducible, quantitative data disturbing side-effects have to be reduced to a minimum. Instead of conventional halogen illumination we used a self-constructed 10 high performance infrared LED cluster. The defined wavelength of 735 nm minimizes light-induced influences on the slime mold. Because this light is not visible for a human eye we used a CCD-camera for observation and data aquisition.
